In an era when physicians are denying patients Vitamin D testing, the Vitamin D Home Test makes a lot of sense.

Greetings from the front lines of helping families have stronger and more resilient immune systems. On three separate occasions just this year, I have had people tell me they requested Vitamin D testing from their family physician and were denied. The most recent story just happened a few days ago and is the inspiration for this article. The first two times I had someone tell me a story of being turned down for a Vitamin D test, I thought it was just curious. Now, with this third story in less than two months, I'm worried that this is becoming a trend.
My friend Jane* recounted that at her yearly physical recently as the nurse was getting ready to draw her blood for yearly bloodwork, she asked: "Can you make sure a Vitamin D test is included? If it's not covered, I'll pay for it." After leaving the room to consult with the doctor, the nurse returned and replied: "We can't do that. In fact, we just don't test Vitamin D anymore. We just assume that everyone is deficient."

This anectdote represenets a shocking and appaling aspect of the current state of affairs. A couple points to ponder:
While it's probably safe to assume everyone is deficient, just ignoring this serious health epidemic is making it worse. How can we acknowledge such a devastating wide-spread problem and then make no effort to improve it?
Testing and gaining the knowledge of a Vitamin D level is one of the simplest, most cost-effective, and essential action steps any person could do for themselves.
I fear that a physician denying a patient a test that they are requesting represents a dangerous amount of hubris and ignorance.
Thank goodness we are past the days of doctors being the portal of entry or gatekeepers for healthy bio-marker testing. In decades past, a doctor's appointment was the only way to get something like vitamin D tested. These days, you can go to labs all across the nation and globe and get testing done and there are home test kits that empower you to do testing from the convenience of your home.
I've been hearing people's complaints and frustrations about Vitamin D testing for years. Many people end up frustrated when they find out that the standard blood work at their annual check-up doesn't include a Vitamin D test or are disappointed to find out thier insurance doesn't cover it. These recent stories I've been hearing ratchet up the frustration to the next level, to have a patient request the test, offer to pay for it, and then still be denied is enfuriating.
In an era like this the Vitamin D Home Test is making more and more sense. We are proud and pleased to offer a home test kit for Vitamin D that is easy to use, less expensive than most lab draw appointments, and you can do it from the convenience of your home.
